Wind Rose

Wind Rose is my personal songwriting project, featuring a full band that delivers rich and expansive textures. Constantly evolving, adding new songs along the way. I use both Spanish and English to explore a range of emotions: the longing for home, the search for freedom and beauty, the journey to find your identity.

Never before have I been so moved at Bimhuis as by Susana Raya & friends. Try finding a musician who sings and plays guitar so beautifully.

Solo

Just me & my guitars. My most personal setup. An honest dialogue with the six strings. Special arrangements of favorite pieces—from jazz to classical, including works by Ralph Towner, Jacob Bro, and Jerry Reed, among others—alongside my original compositions. Each piece takes on a unique twist, shaped by my Spanish heritage.

Her boldness in diving into the unknown stands in striking contrast to her apparent fragility, that masks an extraordinary ability to immerse herself in music—and to bring others along for the ride. In every performance, her guitar takes center stage, showcasing a profound and passionate connection to the six strings.

Susana Raya & Jeroen Vierdag

Let’s talk about trust. Duet is one of our favorite and most inspiring forms of musical expression. It’s the one that allows me more freedom and a greater sense of adventure. Long-time collaboration with master double bassist Jeroen Vierdag has borne rich fruit, allowing us to explore jazz and Brazilian repertoire, alongside some of our original compositions. The trust and chemistry we share make every performance a fun and exciting experience.

Adding to the magic of the night were the engaging stories Susana Raya shared between songs. Her humorous interactions with her fellow musician gave the concert a warm, almost stand-up comedy feel, enhancing the cheerful atmosphere in the theater.
